Designed Around the Home Fire

The crescent form of Kikinow responds directly to culture and place. Fully accessible suites extend outward from the central Home Fire and are deliberately oriented toward the Rocky Mountain foothills, connecting Elders to a landscape rich with memory, stories, and identity. A spirit room supports smudging and ceremony, while shared dining and gathering spaces welcome family, grandchildren, and the broader community. Rather than adapting an institutional model for Indigenous residents, Kikinow began with a different question: what does home need to mean for the Elders who will live here? The result is a lodge shaped by listening, cultural understanding, and the belief that aging in place should also mean remaining connected to who you are and where you belong.
